Camground operators take part in New Jersey Tourism Advocacy Day
The event was hosted by the New Jersey Tourism Industry Association.
Trenton, New Jersey --On May 8th four representatives from the New Jersey Campground Owners Association (NJCOA) traveled to the War Memorial in Trenton, New Jersey to discuss issues of importance with state legislators and staff during the annual Advocacy Day, hosted by the NJ Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA).
According to NJTIA, the annual event is attended by professionals and business operators from across the tourism sector - including trade associations, DMS, CVBs, chambers, independent businesses, and nonprofits - who engage with state policymakers, advocate for the sector's priorities, and highlight the vital role tourism plays in New Jersey's economy.
The theme of the day was, 'Uniting Voices for New Jersey's Tourism Industry," and activities included meetings with legislators and staff, presentations, and awards and recognition for tourism professionals and staff.
The NJCOA contingent included Executive Director Joann DelVescio, Judy LaPorta of Little Oaks Campground, Scott Turner of Ocean View Resort Campground, and Karen Kymer of Kymer's Camping Resort. NJCOA and the three campgrounds were also underwriting sponsors of the event.
Joann DelVescio, Chair of the Advocacy Day Event and Committee for NJTIA said, "The event each year brings together tourism professionals to hear updated information on pending legislation as well as tourism statistics from the previous year. It is great to reconnect prior to the upcoming summer season and plan for any last-minute issues that may arise with the proposed budget sessions. It is also a great time to recognize our legislators who are champions of the tourism industry in New Jersey."
Judy LaPorta came because she believes the voices of campground operators should be heard in the tourism industry. "It is important to be with others who are part of the tourism industry and having the opportunity to network with them and express our interests and concerns as campground owners and managers. Tourism in New Jersey is a significant driver of its economy and we all - campgrounds, hotels, motels, casinos, marinas, amusement parks, boardwalk merchants and so many more - need to be united, informed and strong partners in all facets that drive the tourists to our businesses in a safe and prosperous way."
LaPorta praised NJCOA's pro-active efforts and leadership in the state's tourism industry. "To have the attention of the industry lobbyist, legislators and other industry leaders all in the same room or in the Capital building was an honor and a privilege as campground owners there on behalf of the NJCOA. Our Executive Director Joann Delvescio served as chair of the event. She certainly knows her way around the capital complex, is recognized by many, is on top of the current legislative issues, and is a highly respected individual in the tourism and hospitality industry."
Also on May 8th, NJTIA released the "2024 Economic Impact of Visitors to New Jersey" study which found that visitor spending topped $50 billion for the first time in history, visitation grew to 123.7 million, and expressed optimistic forecasts for NJ with major events to be held in 2026, such as the FIFA World Cup 2026TM.
